About : MUSIC AT COLD SPRING SCHOOL

music_notes__instruments_1.jpgAt Cold Spring School all students receive a comprehensive music education taught by credentialed music teachers, Pam Herzog and Norma LaTuchie. Depending on the grade level, students receive general music classes two or three times a week. The music curriculum is designed to foster music literacy and appreciation. This includes studying various composers and their music, learning to play the recorders, understanding music theory, incorporating movement into songs, singing a variety of music, playing various percussion instruments including Orff, and creating their own compositions.

All students participate in three major performances: Fall Sing, Winter Sing, and Spring Sing. These performances are a culmination of what students have been working on in the music classroom. Each year the 6th grade class performs a musical. Past musicals have included Oliver, Peter Pan, Fiddler On the Roof, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Music Man , and Annie. In addition to general music classes, Ms. Herzog also directs the Cold Spring School Chorus, an elective for students in 4-6th grade.
