Welcome To the New School Year!

The Cold Spring School staff and I welcome you to the 2007-08 school year.

A complete set of tentative class lists will be posted in the classroom windows facing the playground by 4:00 P.M. on Friday, August 31.

Enrollment is about the same as last year – 196 students to date. Two classroom teachers are returning to the Cold Spring staff after leaves of absence.  Stephanie Steel and Kelly Orwig are job sharing in first grade!  A list of teacher assignments is included in this mailing.

The areas of focus this year for the teaching staff and I are to continue our efforts to strengthen the integration of technology with the classroom programs, implement the new adopted science program, and evaluate the school’s mathematics program.  We are expanding the 1 to 1 laptop program that was started last year in fifth and sixth to the third and fourth grade classrooms. In this program, every child in those grades has his/her own laptop computer to use during the school day.  The teachers and I are excited to develop this program as a means to create a stronger instructional program.  We appreciate the leadership of the Board of Trustees and the financial support of the Foundation for this program.

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4.  Please see the enclosed Daily Schedule for your child’s dismissal time and other time schedules.

On the first day of school all parents are invited to a Welcome Coffee sponsored by the Parent Club. This informal social event will be held in the Gazebo at 8:00 A.M.  Back to School Night is Thursday, September 20.  More details will follow in the next few weeks.
