How does my child enter into classes at Santa Barbara Junior High?
Your child will take the GATE (Gifted and Talented) Test in late March. When the results are in, the
GATE coordinator at the Junior High will meet with Mrs. Gradias and myself and we will personally
place each student in General, Honors, or GATE classes according to their Gate Test scores, their
Standardized Testing scores, and their classroom acheivement over the year. The Junior High will
then put together a schedule for your child and send it to you.

What if my child is not going to Santa Barbara Junior High?
We would still like you to fill out the elective form and take the GATE Test, just in case plans change.
I am happy to fill out any recommendation forms for entrance to other schools, just please
give me ample time...Thanks!

What about electives?
SBJHS counselors will come meet with the two 6th grades in the late Spring. They will discuss the
elective options with the students and allow them to choose one elective. They will then bring these
choices home to you, the parents, and discuss your opinion. Your child may choose two electives if
one is a foreign language. You will then send the form back to SBJHS and they will create your child's
class schedule.
