Library Book Clubs
Library Book Clubs for grades 1 through 6 will start in January. These are voluntary clubs for each grade level and are designed to encourage recreational reading. Books that children choose for their club are at their own independent reading level and are meant to be read easily and with pleasure.
-
Grades 1 and 2-- The Bookworm Club-Easy reader books Students choose their book, take it home and read the entire book, and then make an "appointment" with Mrs. Pedersen to read her their favorite page. Each student gets an official Bookworm Bookmark and a sticker each time they read. After reading 6 books, a special prize is given. This year we've added periodic recordings of their reading in Garage Band so they can track the improvement of their fluency.
-
Grade 3--The Red Dot Book Club Students choose from a wide a variety of beginning chapter books that are designated throughout the Library with a red dot on the book's spine. Each student gets an official Red Dot Book Club Bookmark. After each book is read, they complete a book project, turn it in to Mrs. Pedersen, and a special prize is given.
-
Grade 4--Mystery Book Club. Students choose from a wide variety of mystery books in the Library. Each student gets an official Mystery Club Bookmark. After each book is read, they complete a book project, turn it in to Mrs. Pedersen, and a special prize is given.
- Grades 5 and 6--The Design-Your-Own Book Club Students choose an author or a subject/genre, read a book, and then record a video book review on the library blog, "Voices from the Inglenook." A small prize is given for each review.
