Welcome to Ms. Warner's Classroom.

Stephani Warner's second grade class at Cold Spring School is always buzzing with activity.  The
room environment is canopied under a rainforest.  As the year progresses, the students add
elements to the rainforest when study units are completed.  Plants, insects, birds, butterflies,
reptiles, amphibians, and mammals are layered within the "silk rainforest" suspended from the
ceiling.  A garden or "life lab" is located on our near the entrance to the school where we've filled
raised beds  with flowers and vegetables.  Be sure to watch our garden grow and see
the best-dressed, seasonal scarecrow to ever scare crows.  Bird feeders will be added to the
classroom patio to attract many feathered friends.  In the classroom we have a seed starter, mini
greenhouse, and a special growing container that we can observe the total plant growing...roots and
all.

During January and February we will write biographies of famous people.  We will make posters with
a report,  portrait, and illustrations of inventions in the time of the chosen person.  They will
"become" their famous person for a moment as participate in our Living Legends Pagent.  Then we
will switch gears and in March and April we will begin our dinosaur unit.  The children each become
expert about a dinosaur as they research the latest information, write a report, and model a clay
sculpture.

As the year comes to a close, a unit on Egypt to compare an ancient community to our modern
community will be under way.  Egypt's architecture, religion, art, and of course mummies will be
studied.  In fact, check back later to this site and we will have pictures of our unit and "how to make
an Egyptian foil" and ceramic "mummies in cases."  Egypt will be our theme at the Art Faire in May.
On display will be art from the entire year and additional Egyptian pieces.
