Cold Spring School

Social and Emotional Development

The social and emotional development of each identified student is considered in the design of each years goals. Teachers receive training, in conferences, professional education classes and at faculty meetings, in the unique affective needs of gifted students and are aware of the support services available to these students. Information regarding special needs and opportunities for GATE students is provided at the annual parent meeting, in the school newsletter, and through the mail.

Students receive curriculum that promotes empathy and acceptance of others. It is a priority at Cold Spring School to honor differences and provide opportunities for students to pursue and receive recognition for a wide range of gifts and talents.  Examples include: Math Superbowl, Student Council, Chorus, Band, Drama, Art Faire, Track Meet, cross age tutoring, lunchtime sports league and outdoor education programs.

The on-site counselor is aware of the unique needs of gifted students and is trained to address these issues in individual and/or group counseling sessions.  Teachers and parents are aware of these support services and familiar with the referral process.
