Association of California Schools Administrators (ACSA) Legislative Action Days

Earlier this week, Mr. Calderon and I served as lobbyists with 14 other administrators from San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. We lobbied our State Superintendent, Tony Thurmond, and legislators in Sacramento regarding

  • School Funding

  • Preserving the arts, music, and instructional materials block grant that was promised to us,

  • Ensuring Safe and Modern Schools,

  • Addressing the Staff Shortage when it comes to obtaining substitute teachers, and

  • Streamlining all the accountability plans we are required to write.

The attached Leave Behind was given to our legislators as a summary reference after our meetings.  Together, we are ensuring every child gets every opportunity to be successful.

Book Exchange: Friday, April 21st

Last Call for Book Exchange Collection: Thursday, April 20

This year, CSS will hold their annual book exchange on FRIDAY April 21st. For new families, every April we hold a book exchange in honor of Earth Day!  Students spring clean their home libraries and bring in books to swap. Teachers will have a collection box inside their room and students can bring in books (20 books maximum) starting Thursday April 13th through the morning of Thursday April 20th.

The book exchange will take place on Friday the 21st during the school day for the students.  **Coming back this year is a parent/teacher book exchange element, so bring in your books  (5 books max for parents due to space in the classroom)  and we will have a table set up at the front gate on Thursday all day long for parents/staff to visit before, during and after-school!  This is a great way to recycle your books and find new treasures. All the leftover books will be donated to a local non-profit organization.  Please let me know if you have any questions: katie.szopa@gmail.com

Move-A-Thon

The Cold Spring Move-A-Thon fundraiser is happening now!  We have already raised $4,500 towards our goal!  Every morning from now until our Move-a-thon, we are raffling off $10 gift cards to Rori’s, Chick-Fil-A and Toy Crazy for the students that have gathered 2 or more sponsors.  Today’s winners were Teddy Marino, Ella Copus and Benji Marino!  Our goal is to raise $30,000 to create a more secure entryway onto the campus.  You will find detailed information on the flier below, including the donation link to share with friends and family (https://www.parentsquare.com/f...).  Check out all the fun prizes students can win!

Important Reminder: No School on Friday, April 28

Please enjoy a day off with your family to get ready for the end of the year!
