CSS Move A Thon 2025

Dear Cold Spring School Families,

Last week was full of energy, connection, and leadership across campus and we’re carrying that momentum into another exciting week at Cold Spring.

Our Move-A-Thon was a huge success! Students ran, hopped on cup stilts, balanced cups of water on their heads, and cheered their way through an afternoon of movement (and popsicles). Highlights include many waterlogged students, a showdown on tricycles by our wonderful teaching staff, and our 6th Grade color run tradition. Thank you to all the parents, staff, and supporters who helped bring this event to life. It was a wonderful reminder of how strong and spirited our community is. If you haven’t seen it yet, please take a minute to enjoy this highlight video, and check out the images below.

Also this past week, our Principal’s Coffee welcomed reflective conversation and discussions on continuing education into junior high. It was a wonderful chance to connect in an informal setting, thank you to everyone who joined.

A big shoutout goes to our 1st Grade leaders, who did a fantastic job guiding our all-school assembly through a presentation on Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood on Monday. It’s always powerful to see our younger students stepping up as role models for the whole school.

Our Chorus students will be heading to Knott’s Berry Farm today, Wednesday, April 16, for a performance and celebration of their hard work. Our Cold Spring community is so proud of this group and excited for them to share their talents in such a fun and festive setting.

I’m also excited for our Arbor Day celebration tradition of planting apple trees with our TK and Kindergarten students next week Friday, April 25. Our students love it, and we love sharing a passion for the environment with them.

Wishing everyone a great week ahead as we continue to learn, explore, and grow together. There’s just a short time left before we break for the summer!

Warmly,
Dr. Amy Alzina
Superintendent/Principal

The City of Santa Barbara Public Works Department has invited the Cold Spring community to attend a Public Works Meet and Greet at SBCC’s Great Meadow on Thursday, May 8, from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. This community event offers a hands-on look at the people, vehicles, and systems that keep our city running. Students will be able to “Touch a Truck,” watch demonstrations, play games, and explore behind-the-scenes elements of the Public Works Department. Principal for the Day Raffle

Ever wonder what it’s like to lead the No. 1 ranked elementary school in California? Now’s your chance! The winning student will step into my shoes for the day and experience the joy of being Principal for the Day at Cold Spring School.

The day begins with a warm welcome and an official badge before the new "principal" visits every classroom to greet students and connect with teachers. From making school-wide announcements to helping with special projects, this student leader will be front and center, experiencing what it means to inspire a campus.

To top off the unforgettable day, the student will join me for a special off-campus lunch at their favorite local restaurant. It’s a one-of-a-kind leadership experience filled with fun, learning, and Cold Spring pride!
