NoCal educators explore CSS and its learning model

Dear Cold Spring School Families,

Cold Spring continues to thrive with meaningful moments, student achievements, and a strong sense of community.

Last week’s Walk and Roll to School Day was a shining example of that spirit. Despite the drizzly and cold weather, over half of our students participated. Thank you to all the families who bundled up and joined in. Your commitment to healthy habits and sustainability is inspiring.

I also had the honor of attending the ACSA State Leadership Assembly in Burbank, where I connected with educational leaders from across California. During the event, I was elected and officially sworn in to serve on the ACSA State Board of Directors, representing Region 13, which includes Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo Counties. I will be serving a three-year term on the board. In addition, I was appointed to chair the ACSA Statewide AI Task Force. In this role, I will collaborate with key leaders across the state to ensure equity and equal access to high-quality education and emerging technologies for all students.

These statewide conversations reaffirm how proud I am to represent our innovative and supportive Cold Spring community. We are leading the way in implementing AI to personalize learning and inspire student creativity. In fact, educators from Northern California visited our school this week to learn more about our instructional framework and the reasons behind our students’ continued academic success.

Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome you to our Annual Art Fair this Thursday, May 15 at 5:00 pm. Our campus will be filled with beautiful student artwork that reflects their creativity, voice, and hard work. Please join us in celebrating their accomplishments. Feel free to join the Edible Art Contest! Details are on the poster below.

To support setup for the event, staggered dismissal times will be in effect on Thursday:

  • TK and Kindergarten will dismiss at 12:15 p.m.

  • Grades 1 through 6 will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

Also, a friendly reminder that the Dolphin Center will close early at 4:00 pm on Thursday. We kindly ask that this program be reserved for working families who are unable to pick up at the early dismissal time.

Here are a few more important events to note:

  • Our rescheduled monthly Principal’s Coffee will take place on Monday, May 19 at 8:30 am in the auditorium. We hope you’ll join us for a review of our LCAP Goals and Actions.

  • The First Grade Patriotic Sing is coming up on Thursday, May 22 at 8:30 am.

  • On Friday, May 23, we’re looking forward to hosting Katie Nimmons as our Principal for the Day—a special tradition that brings joy and fresh leadership to our school.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support. Cold Spring is a special place because of the care and collaboration we all share.

Warmly,

Dr. Amy Alzina
Superintendent/Principal
