Dear Cold Spring School Families,
As I sit down to write our final newsletter of the school year, I find myself reflecting on just how much our students have grown, not only in what they’ve learned, but in who they’re becoming. From the first day of school to now, Cold Spring has been filled with moments of laughter, curiosity, perseverance, and connection. It has been a joy to witness and a privilege to lead.
Our sixth graders took a bow in their performance of Disney’s High School Musical, Jr., last week and what a performance it was. The confidence and teamwork they brought to the stage reminded us all of the magic that happens when students are supported to express themselves and shine.
This week, UC Santa Barbara Men’s Basketball Coach Joe Pasternack gave an inspirational talk on “Gratitude” during our Monday all-school assembly. At Cold Spring School District, we don't just go to school — we GET to learn, grow, and thrive in a community built on excellence, relationships, and joy.
The Louise Merry Citizenship Trophy, established in 1981 to honor outstanding citizenship among fourth graders, celebrates students who show kindness, leadership, and care for others. This year’s recipients are Sutton Wendell, recognized for her positivity and encouragement, and Clancy Koffel, honored for his quiet strength and thoughtfulness.
The sixth grader students will continue their end-of-year adventures with a pool day at Westmont College. The always-popular Staff vs. Sixth Grade Kickball Game will be held on Friday, June 6. It’s a spirited tradition we all look forward to, and one that celebrates not just competition, but connection.
Friday, June 6 is also the final day of Dolphin Center for the school year. Thank you to our Dolphin Center team for the care and consistency they have provided all year long.
Then on Monday, June 9, we will gather as a full school community for our All-School Beach Day at the Rosewood Miramar. This tradition gives us time to simply enjoy being together before the year officially comes to a close. Much gratitude to Rick Caruso and his team for generously providing a catered hot dog and PB&J lunch for the students, staff and volunteer parents. Please be sure to return any final permission slips or driver forms to the office as soon as possible. Please note that only fifth and sixth grade students will be allowed to swim to the dock.
Our last day of school is Tuesday, June 10, with an early dismissal at 11:30am. That morning, we will celebrate two especially meaningful milestones:
6th Grade Promotion Ceremony at 8:30 a.m.
Kindergarten Moving Up Ceremony at 10:45 a.m. in the auditorium
These ceremonies remind us of the important transitions our students are making as they grow into new chapters of their lives.
There is also a 6th Grade Beach Theme Grad Party on June 10th in the auditorium from 6 - 8pm. Please remember to pick up your child's portrait at the front gate after the grad night party on 6/10 and before 6/13.
Thank you for your partnership, trust, and support throughout this school year. Cold Spring School continues to thrive because of the incredible people who make up this community. On behalf of our entire staff, I wish you and your family a joyful, safe, and restorative summer.
Warmly,
Dr. Amy Alzina

Join Cold Spring Community in Montecito’s 4th of July Parade!
We’re thrilled to once again be part of Montecito’s cherished 4th of July Parade—an annual celebration of community, joy, and school spirit! This year’s theme is “Surfing in the USA,” inspired by The Beach Boys and the golden age of California sunshine. Cold Spring will be bringing the beach vibes in full force, and we’d love for your family to join the fun!
Our very own Cold Spring parent Nina Quiros Hardie, along with her family team, is leading this year’s creative charge, and we couldn’t be more excited. Here’s what’s in store:
Beach-Themed Parade Performance
Students will be split into two spirited teams:
Blue Shirts: Surf Team – Performing light choreography to Surfin’ USA and carrying fun props like ribbon wands and pom-poms.
Red Shirts: Rescue Team – Handing out festive goodies and helping energize the crowd with whistles, inflatable surfboards, and more!
Craft & Choreography Meetup
An optional but encouraged pre-parade meetup will be held on Saturday, June 28 to decorate props and learn choreography. Stay tuned for final details.
Parent Volunteers Needed
We’re seeking 4–5 volunteers to help with:
Leading choreography
Pulling wagons with supplies, giveaways, and music
The Highlight: Cold Spring vs. Montecito Union Tug-of-War
Get ready for some friendly rivalry as we face off in a tug-of-war showdown with Montecito Union! Let’s show up with Cold Spring unity, enthusiasm, and pride.
Final parade day details—including meeting time, location, and what to bring—will be shared soon. In the meantime, we hope you’ll start thinking surfboards, sunshine, and star-spangled fun!
