SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

Congratulations to the Cold Spring School Class of 2022!
It has definitely been a year of creativity and innovation! All of our students began the year wearing face masks, and yet still found a way to communicate love & friendship. They learned that our actions of compassion and generosity speak much louder than words. I’m so proud of them!

TK/Kindergarten “Moving-Up” Ceremony
Our TK/Kindergarten students participated in a lively “Moving-Up” Ceremony in their courtyard this morning.  It has been a joy to watch these students grow into top scholars and loving children.  They are definitely ready to move on up!

Summer Reading
Every Cold Spring student can now access over 3,000 online books and news articles to read throughout the summer.  The best part is that every book your child chooses from is set at his/her reading level.  Research shows that in order for students to make growth in their reading they must be reading 20-30 minutes a day within their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD).  Every student has taken a reading assessment (STAR Reading) this month to ensure every book they are reading is within their ZPD.

I am encouraging every student to read at least 20-minutes every day over the summer.  The Renaissance Learning myON program is a great way for your child to choose from a wide variety of interest books at his/her level and take an embedded comprehension assessment to follow.
The Renaissance Learning myON program can be accessed through the following URL:  https://global-zone05.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/711719

Your child’s username and password are the first letter of their name followed by their last name (Example:  jalzina).   The student’s password is their first name (Example:  jack).
Students can also access the daily news at their reading level, in addition to choosing from thousands of books to read.  Click HERE to Learn about myON News.

Beach Day
Much gratitude, again, for making Beach Day a Huge Success!  It’s such a great example of how our wonderful community comes together to love and support our children!  Thank you!

Math Super Bowl Winners
Congratulations to all the 4-6th grade students that participated in the Santa Barbara County Math Super Bowl. A huge shoutout to Leo Vignia, a Cold Spring fifth-grade student, for placing third and to the Cold Spring sixth-grade students for placing 2nd in the team competition.

The Santa Barbara Mobile Library van will be in our front parking lot today from 3:30 PM-5:30 PM for students to check out books for the summer!
