2021-2022 CAASPP (ELA and Math) and CAST (Science) Student Achievement Results
Congratulations to the Students, Teachers, Staff, Parents, School Board, and Community for an excellent year in education!  According to our end-of-the-year California Department of Education CAASPP and CAST achievement scores, our third through sixth-grade students did FABULOUSLY!  We ended the school year with 91% Proficiency in ELA, 93% Proficiency in Math, and 93% Proficiency in Science!
We are mailing all the individual student results this week.  Please look for your child’s results in the mail.  I have attached a schoolwide summary PowerPoint for your review.  The one way you can support your child over the summer is by supporting their love of READING!  Literacy is tied to every content area!  Below are some ways you can ensure your child is reading within their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) to ensure student growth!

myON Summer Reading
Check out our top summer myON Readers so far!  Every Cold Spring student can access over 3,000 online books and news articles to read throughout the summer.  The best part is that every book your child chooses from is set at his/her reading level.  Research shows that in order for students to make growth in their reading they must be reading 20-30 minutes a day within their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD).  Every student has taken a reading assessment (STAR Reading) this month to ensure every book they are reading is within their ZPD.

I am encouraging every student to read at least 20-minutes every day over the summer.  The Renaissance Learning myON program is a great way for your child to choose from a wide variety of interest books at his/her level and take an embedded comprehension assessment to follow.
The  Renaissance Learning myON program can be accessed through the following URL:  https://global-zone05.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/711719

Your child’s username is the first letter of their name followed by their last name (Example: jalzina). Your student’s password is their first name (Example: jack).

Accelerated Reading
If your child is reading a book NOT through myON, he/she can take a comprehension quiz through the Renaissance portal using the same URL to access myON:  https://global-zone05.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/711719   Check out our top Accelerated Readers to date!

SBCEO Battle of the Books List
Battle of the Books is a voluntary Santa Barbara County Reading program for students in 4th through 8th grade that encourages reading books from a designated Battle of the Books list. Students who read the most books from the list attached will be selected to participate in a fun Battle of the Books competition by answering questions about plot, characters, and theme.

Happy 4th of July!
Check out Gavin Roy and his kids Stella and Oliver in the Montecito Parade!  They did a GREAT job representing our school community!  Thank you Roy family!

Community Beach Meet-Up at Butterfly Beach: June 27, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Everyone is invited to meet at Butterfly Beach to hang out and enjoy the summer!  Bring your own picnic and fun!  We will be at the Butterfly Lane end of the beach.
