SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

Back-to-School Night: Wednesday, August 31st, beginning at 6 PM - 7:30 PM.

All parents (adults only) are encouraged to attend our annual Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, August 31st beginning at 6 PM.  I will introduce this year’s staff and share how we are continuing to work towards achieving our three priority goals.  My presentation will be followed by a visit to your child’s/children’s classroom(s) where every teacher will be presenting his/her year-long plans and goals for your child.  If you have more than one child, we ask that you divide your time between the classrooms.  In addition to the all school and classroom presentations, Mrs. Di’Salvo will be meeting with the 4-6th grade parents interested in the afterschool chorus program.

The following is the Agenda for Back-to-School night:

AGENDA

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM:  Superintendents Presentation - all Parents and Staff - lower basketball courts.

7:00 PM - 7:30 PM:  Teacher Presentations - Classrooms

7:30 PM - 8:00 PM:  Optional Chorus Presentation in the Auditorium

Back-to-School Night Early Dismissal: Wednesday, August 31st at 12:30 PM

As a reminder, all students in grades 1st through 6th are dismissed early from school at 12:30 PM to allow our teachers ample time to prepare for Back-to-School night. Kindergarten will be dismissed at 11:30 AM. Our Dolphin Center will be available after school to support your childcare needs.

School Site Council/LCAP Advisory Committee

We have two parent openings to serve on the Cold Spring School Site Council/LCAP Advisory Committee. This is a great opportunity for families wanting to better understand how we create our strategic goals and the actions behind achieving those goals. The time commitment requires a once-a-month morning meeting from 7:30-8:25 AM. If you are interested in serving on the School Site Council/LCAP Advisory Committee, please send a brief paragraph explaining why you would be a good person to fill this role for our school by Monday, August 29th to Coral Godlis at cgodlis@coldspringschool.net.

SB Public Mobile Library Van, September 1st

On Thursday, September 1st, the SB Public Library Mobile Library van will be outside the front gates for students to create a Library card and check out books.  The Van will be out front from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

Just a reminder that there is NO School on Monday, September 5th as we celebrate Labor Day.

South County School Attendance Review Board - School Attendance

School Attendance is required by law for all children ages 6 to 18.  At Cold Spring, all students are expected to be on campus by 8:22 AM (Warning Bell) and ready to enter the classroom by 8:25 AM (School Start Bell). A student is considered tardy after 8:25 AM.

Joyce Dudley, the District Attorney for the County of Santa Barbara, has asked all Superintendents to remind their parent communities of the legal school attendance requirements with the below letter.  Please note that a student is considered truant if he/she misses more than 30 minutes of instruction three times during the school year or is absent three full days without a valid excuse (family vacations are not a valid excuse).  Thank you in advance for supporting your child’s school success by ensuring they arrive at school on time and ready to learn.
