Knott's Berry Farm Sing

Dear Cold Spring School Families,

As we head into the final stretch of April, the Cold Spring campus continues to be filled with energy, learning, and some big celebrations, both in and out of the classroom.

I’m thrilled to share that Sara DiSalvo has been named the 2026 Santa Barbara Bowl Performing Arts Teacher of the Year (PATOY)! This is the highest honor a performing arts educator can receive in Santa Barbara County. The award, presented by the SBCEO Teachers Network and sponsored by the Santa Barbara Bowl, recognizes outstanding dedication to arts education, and we can’t think of anyone more deserving. Congratulations, Ms. DiSalvo! Our community is so proud to see your creativity, heart, and impact recognized in such a meaningful way.

A very special thank you to Santa Barbara County First District Supervisor Roy Lee, who visited Ms. Orwig’s class this morning. His visit offered students an up-close look at local leadership and civic life. Jake Miller and Lulu Walmsley were more than excited to get an in-person response as a result of their letters. We’re grateful for the time he took to engage with our students and answer their thoughtful questions (not to mention for bringing a special treat of donuts). Photos of the dialogue are below!

Our Chorus students traveled to Knott’s Berry Farm this past week to perform and celebrate a year of hard work and harmony. They sang beautifully, represented Cold Spring with pride, and got some time to run around the amusement park and ride some rides.

Looking at the week ahead, we have a lot of engaging activities for our Cold Spring community. Tomorrow is the annual SBCEO Battle of the Books, a spirited tradition that brings students together to celebrate reading and teamwork. We’re excited to cheer on HB Barlow, Ella Arconian, Makenzie Bloom, Wyatt Carlson, and Sage Lieber with Ms. Orwig and Ms. Wooten!

This upcoming Friday, the Parent Club will host a Book Exchange, which is a great way for students to find new favorites, trade gently used books, and spark fresh excitement for reading. Thank you to our Parent Club for continuing to bring thoughtful, community-centered events to campus.

Our fifth grade students are looking forward going on the annual Montecito Peak Hike led by Ms. Wooten this Friday, while TK and Kindergarten plant apple trees with their sixth grade big buddies in celebration of Arbor Day!

And next week is our annual Spring Sing for all our students. Please have your child dress in Spring colors. The schedule is listed right below the poster in our newsletter this week.

It’s a full and joyful springtime for us at Cold Spring School. Have a wonderful week!

Warmly,
Dr. Amy Alzina
Superintendent/Principal
