Dear Cold Spring School Families,
Last week was filled with incredible moments that showcased the talent and community spirit of our Cold Spring students.
Our students gave a beautiful performance at the Spring Sing, lighting up the stage with music, movement, and heart. Thank you to all the families who came to support them and to Ms. DiSalvo for coordinating such a joyful event.
Our 5th grade hikers also made us proud on the Montecito Peak hike, tackling a challenging trail with enthusiasm. This outdoor adventure gave students the chance to push themselves, support one another, and enjoy the beauty of our natural surroundings here in Montecito. Gratitude goes to Mr. Pierce, Ms. Wooten, and our parent chaperones for guiding our hikers on the hike.
The Book Exchange was a big success, with students eagerly trading their gently used books for new stories to dive into. Thank you to our Parent Club and Ann Pattison for organizing an event that continues to encourage a continued love of reading for our students during their Cold Spring education.
In honor of Arbor Day, our TK and Kindergarten students took part in an apple tree planting ceremony on campus, symbolizing growth, sustainability, and stewardship for Mother Earth. The 6th graders also got to revisit their trees that they planted when they were in Kindergarten. It was a special moment that connected our school community to the natural world around us.
A huge congratulations to all of our readers who competed in the Battle of the Books! Mackenzie’s team placed 1st, Harrison’s team placed 2nd, Sage and Wyatt’s team placed 3rd, and Ella’s team placed 4th. Every student showed incredible teamwork, dedication, and a deep love of reading. We are proud of you all! A big thank you to Ms. Orwig and Ms. Wooten who guided the activities leading up to and during the event.
This weekend, we are excited for our Saddle Up Soiree, the Annual Cold Spring School Gala on May 3, a beautiful evening that brings our community together in support of our students and programs. The event features live music by Tenn West with line dancing, BBQ, and craft cocktails. Our students will also get in the Cold Spring School spirit wearing Western-themed apparel on Friday, May 2nd. Hope to see you there!
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, with National Teacher Appreciation Day on Tuesday, May 6. We look forward to celebrating our amazing teachers who give their best to our students every day. It would be great to thank any teachers you see next week for their passion and enthusiasm for education.
We are also excited to participate in Walk and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, May 7. Students are encouraged to walk, bike, or scoot to school, promoting healthy habits and safe routes to school.
Also, this Friday, May 2, we will join schools across California in celebrating School Lunch Hero Day. We are so grateful to our incredible nutrition professionals who work every day to nourish our students with healthy, fresh meals. Their dedication supports not just student wellness, but academic success too. Please take a moment to thank our lunch heroes for all they do!
Finally, I will be representing Cold Spring at the ACSA State Leadership Assembly later next week in Los Angeles. This is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with school leaders across California and bring new ideas and advocacy back to our community.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead.
Warmly,
Dr. Amy Alzina
Superintendent/Principal
