1st day of school

Dear Cold Spring Families,

I want to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude for such a wonderful first day of school. Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning in the gazebo.  It was such a joy to see our community together as we kicked off a new school year. With our theme of Leading with Purpose and Heart, I know this year will be filled with meaningful connections and moments that make our school shine. I’m excited to see where tomorrow will lead us as we step into day two.

As part of this journey, I’d love to share a short but powerful video with you. It’s only seven minutes long, but it’s such a great reminder of how important it is to put emotional deposits into our children through kind words, affirmations, and moments of connection.

As a mom of two adult children, I’m reminded daily that these deposits matter at every age. This morning, I sent them a simple text: “I’m so glad I’m your mom! I love you!” Their responses came back instantly and filled my heart.  My daughter replied, “Oh my god I’m so glad I’m your child!” and my son hearted my message before sending a smiling selfie.

Such a small act, yet such a big deposit.

Tomorrow during our Zoom assembly, we’ll be talking with students about how to make these deposits in the classroom, on the playground, before and after school, and at home. I encourage you to take these moments with your own children. It only takes a second, but it fills their emotional bank in ways that last a lifetime.

Thank you for being a trusted partner in supporting our students. I’m grateful for each of you as we begin this school year together.

With appreciation,
Dr. Alzina
