Dear Cold Spring Familes,

I hope you’re having a wonderful week. I wanted to share a few highlights from campus, along with important updates and upcoming events.

Monday was a fantastic professional learning day for our staff as we worked with our Leader in Me coach, Denise Rapa, to strengthen how we intentionally teach and reinforce Franklin Covey’s 7 Habits with students. The work we’re doing is deeply grounded in the idea that character, leadership, and trust are at the heart of a thriving school community, principles that align closely with Trust and Inspire Leadership and the foundation of who we are at Cold Spring. It was also wonderful to see so many families at my Principal’s Coffee. We focused on resources connected to student goal setting, the message that “we can do hard things,” and how practicing perseverance helps build resilience in every child. Thank you for your partnership and for continuing these conversations at home.

On Tuesday, we celebrated National Read Across America Day in one of my favorite ways: our Big Buddies and Little Buddies read together outside on the playground for 30 minutes before morning recess. There was truly a happy hum across campus, and it was a beautiful reminder of the joy and community that reading can create. (Photos are included above.)

📅 2026–27 Draft Calendar (Feedback Requested)

Attached below is the draft 2026–27 school calendar, which will be presented for board approval at our next board meeting. We always like to share the draft with families in advance and invite feedback. If you have comments or suggestions, please email them to me prior to the board meeting.

📘 Yearbook Cover Contest

Our Yearbook Cover Contest is underway! This is a fun “at-home” project students can work on throughout the month. Please see the attached information for guidelines and deadlines.

🏀 UCSB Basketball — Free Tickets for Cold Spring Families (This Saturday)

UCSB has extended free tickets to Cold Spring families for UCSB vs. UC San Diego this Saturday. I’m sure it will be a great game—details are included below.

⏰ Spring Forward — Daylight Saving Time

Please remember to spring forward for the time change on Sunday, March 8.

🎭 Variety Show — Thursday, March 12

Our Variety Show is coming up soon! We can’t wait to see our students shine and share their talents with our community.

🗓 Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences will take place March 23–27. More details and scheduling information will be shared soon (or are included below if already sent).

🌷 Spring Break

Spring Break is right around the corner—thank you for all you’re doing to support a strong finish to the semester.

Calling all student artists! We are hosting a Yearbook front and back cover design contest for the 4th-6th graders.

Submit an original design that reflects our school spirit and what the school means to you. Turn in your hand drawn artwork with your name and grade to your class teacher by April 7.

Please indicate whether it is for the front cover or the back cover. You can submit a design for one or both.
