A BIG Shoutout to Grace Huff! 🌟
Grace, a Cold Spring third-grade student, has accomplished something truly remarkable! She wrote and published her first chapter book titled "A Cat of Survival!" The entire school community is incredibly impressed and proud of Grace!
I want to give a shout-out to Grace's parents, Nathan and Erica, for supporting this project. In my most recent interview with Grace, she shares how this project evolved with her parents' support. I encourage you all to check out the interview attached to this post. You can support Grace's love of writing by purchasing the book here. Congratulations, Grace!

Dear Cold Spring Families,
I want to take a moment to share a few exciting updates from Cold Spring School.
Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to co-present with Sal Khan, founder and CEO of Khan Academy, at the Spring CUE Conference. This was especially meaningful to me because Sal Khan has influenced my leadership ever since I read his book The One World Schoolhouse in 2012. His newest book, Brave New Words, continues to inspire important conversations about the future of education and AI. I was also proud that Ryan Francisco, our Innovation Teacher, joined me at the conference as we connected with thousands of educators from across the country.
Back at Cold Spring, I continue to be so proud of the outstanding work of our students and staff. As I review our latest data in Math and English Language Arts, our students continue to perform at an exceptionally high level. What I love most is that our teachers are helping our students achieve by creating personalized learning experiences through great direct instruction and through tools such as Khan Academy, Next Generation Math, and Freckle to ensure every child continues to grow and master grade-level standards and beyond.
At the same time, our students are applying their learning through rich project-based learning experiences that help bring core subjects to life. Today, as I spoke with students about their learning goals and progress, I was deeply moved by how proud, motivated, and excited they are about their growth.
We are also now in the middle of parent-teacher conferences, and I want to thank you for your continued partnership. It has been wonderful to see students taking ownership of their learning and sharing their goals with confidence. This is such an important part of helping children see that growth is a journey for all of us.
Finally, I hope you enjoy the photos below, including updates to our garden area. We are excited to be adding a beautiful new pergola and outdoor seating space for students to enjoy. I also loved spending time recently with our kindergarten students in the garden, pulling weeds and learning together.
Thank you for your continued support of Cold Spring School. I am so grateful for this amazing community.
My best,
Dr. Alzina
