Dear Cold Spring Families,
We have had a great first three days back after spring break and have truly enjoyed being together again as a school community. There is a wonderful energy on campus, and we are looking forward to a strong finish to the semester.
Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming visitors from the Urban Charter Schools Collective to Cold Spring School. Superintendent Lee Yang, along with his Chief Business Official and principal, spent time with us observing classrooms, learning about best practices in our district, and having lunch with our teachers. We are so grateful for the opportunity to share the amazing work happening at Cold Spring and proud of our team for always being willing to open our doors and support other educators. It is especially meaningful to connect with and support districts serving high numbers of English learners and families with significant needs.
Earlier this week, our Kindergarten through 2nd grade teachers were trained on the mCLASS DIBELS 8th Edition reading assessment. This assessment will be given to all K–2 students through the remainder of this week and next week. It takes about 4 to 7 minutes per student and helps us identify students who may need additional reading support as we head into the final stretch of the school year. If you do not want your child to participate in this assessment, please email me directly.
Also, beginning later this month, students with disabilities will begin state testing in English Language Arts and Math, and 5th grade students will also take the California Science Test (CAST). We will send more information home soon.
We also have some exciting events ahead. Our Move-a-thon is coming up on Friday, April 17, and students are already excited. This year, we are also planning a special new surprise activity in place of the traditional tricycle race, and we look forward to sharing more soon. In addition, our Cold Spring Foundation event will take place on April 18, and we are incredibly grateful to our Foundation for all of their hard work in making it such a special event for our community.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are looking forward to all that is ahead and to finishing the semester strong together.
My best,
Dr. Alzina
