Dear Cold Spring Families of Students in Grades 3–5,
We are excited to share that the 2026–2027 SBCEO Battle of the Books Elementary Book List has just been released! For families who would like to get a jumpstart on next year’s reading, this is a wonderful opportunity to begin exploring the books over the summer. The Battle of the Books list includes a wide variety of engaging titles that help students build reading stamina, comprehension, and a love of literature.
A special congratulations again to Elsie Haines, who read all 28 books from last year’s list and whose team finished in first place. What an incredible accomplishment and example of dedication, perseverance, and love of reading!
This new list is also a great summer reading resource for students entering grades 3–5. Whether your child hopes to participate in Battle of the Books next year or simply wants some great books to enjoy, we encourage families to take a look and start reading.
