Dear Cold Spring Families,

We’re enjoying another wonderful week of teaching and learning at Cold Spring School! It’s hard to believe we’re already welcoming October.

First, our family directory has been temporarily turned off. I introduced this feature a few years ago to help families connect, build friendships, and strengthen our school community through inclusive birthday celebrations and other gatherings. Please remember that family contact information should not be collected to create private listservs for personal or business use, or used to promote a business. Respecting one another’s privacy is essential to keeping this resource available.

If you would like your email address, phone number, or both removed from the directory, please let Isabel know by Thursday, October 1. The directory will be turned back on Friday, October 2. My hope is that we can continue offering this opportunity for families to connect responsibly. Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and respectful school community.

In other news, our sixth graders are spending this week at camp in the San Bernardino Mountains! We’re excited for this wonderful opportunity for them to explore, learn, build independence, and make memories together.

Please mark your calendars for these upcoming events:

  • Monday, October 5, at 8:30 a.m.: Principal’s Coffee in the auditorium. Please join me for conversation about our educational program and how technology supports teaching and learning at Cold Spring.

  • October 5–7: Fifth-grade Catalina Island trip. Our fifth graders head off Monday for their own exciting learning adventure!

  • Tuesday, October 6: Parent Club meeting. Please note that the meeting has been moved to Tuesday at 8:30 AM.

  • Wednesday, October 7: National Walk to School Day. I’m looking forward to participating with our school community!

  • Friday, October 9: Kindergarten pumpkin patch trip to Trinity Gardens. A fun fall experience awaits our youngest learners.

Thank you for your generous donations to the Cold Spring Foundation, which help offset the costs of the enriching programs and experiences we provide for our students. Your support makes a difference.

I also want to thank you for your patience as we navigate the ongoing power outages. The children have told me how much they enjoy the lanterns in their classrooms! The inspiration came from Mrs. Schaupeter’s creative use of lanterns in her second-grade classroom, and I thought it would be a little bit of fun to share across our school.

Thank you for your partnership, generosity, and care for our Cold Spring community.

My best

Dr. Alzina

Principal's Coffee with Dr. Alzina This Moday!

Please join me for our upcoming Principal’s Coffee on Monday, October 5, from 8:30–9:30 a.m. in the Cold Spring School Auditorium. All parents and guardians are welcome!

We’ll be discussing all things technology, with a special focus on how technology fits into our comprehensive educational program at Cold Spring School.

Technology is one component of the thoughtful work our teachers do each day. Together, we’ll explore how teachers combine our core curriculum with supplemental learning resources, hands-on experiences, and purposeful technology use to create a rich, engaging learning environment for your child. We’ll discuss how these pieces work together to strengthen foundational skills, support individual learning needs, and encourage creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

If you’d like to better understand what your child is learning, how our teachers plan instruction, and why particular resources are used, you won’t want to miss this opportunity.

I look forward to connecting with you, listening, and sharing more about the teaching and learning happening at Cold Spring.
