STEAM

Dear Cold Spring Families,

What a day to celebrate our Cold Spring community! Our recognition as California’s #1 public elementary school and #1 school district in English language arts and mathematics reflects the care, commitment, and hard work happening here every day. We expect our story to appear in the California Post tomorrow, online and in print. We’re told print copies should be available at 7-Eleven.

This morning, I spent time with Mrs. Crop’s fifth graders, and I was absolutely blown away. Using Lovable within Imagi, students “vibe coded” using everyday language to build a website that brings their classroom economy to life. With class currency, simulated stock investments, and individual portfolios, they’re putting math and financial literacy into practice while creating, collaborating, and solving problems.

Please take a few minutes to watch our students explain their work.

Tomorrow, Friday, October 16, I’ll spend our professional learning day alongside teachers as we examine student data and thoughtfully plan instruction to meet each child’s needs. Next week, during Digital Citizenship Week, October 19–23, we’ll introduce our Digital Driver’s License program to students. Please take five minutes to preview how we’re helping children become safe, thoughtful, and responsible technology users.

At the heart of our success is our people. I am grateful for exceptional teachers who go above and beyond to ensure every child feels seen, connected, and supported, and for our dedicated support, office, and after-school staff.

A special thank-you to Chief Business Official Maureen Fitzgerald, Business Manager Suzy Robinson, and Office Manager Isabel Martinez, whose urgency and care help move needed purchases forward quickly, getting supplies and learning tools into the hands of teachers and students. That work makes a difference every day.

And to our families: thank you for trusting us, supporting our school, and being our partners. I am deeply proud of what we are accomplishing together.

With gratitude,

Dr. Alzina
