Happy National Arbor Day!
Proud to share our Cold Spring students did an outstanding job representing our school at this year’s SBCEO Battle of the Books! This enriching event brought together readers from across Santa Barbara county to celebrate their love of literature and showcase their teamwork and knowledge.
We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Lena Yost to the Cold Spring School community as our newest elementary teacher beginning in the 2025–2026 school year!
Lena brings with her a deep commitment to nurturing the whole child and fostering an inclusive, supportive classroom environment. A graduate of Loyola Marymount University, she holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a minor in Studio Arts and a Master of Educational Studies with a concentration in Literacy. Her academic foundation, paired with her hands-on experience and passion for student success, will be a tremendous asset to our school.
Lena currently teaches third grade at American Martyrs School in Manhattan Beach, where she is known for designing individualized learning plans, creatively integrating technology, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure every student thrives. Her previous experience includes teaching second and fifth grade, as well as kindergarten, with a strong emphasis on differentiated instruction, project-based learning, and STEM integration. She has also led school-wide initiatives as a Track & Field Coach, demonstrating her enthusiasm for supporting students both in and outside the classroom.
Lena is described by colleagues and mentors as a gifted educator with exceptional organization, technological savvy, and a genuine passion for helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Her warmth, creativity, and ability to build strong relationships with students and families align beautifully with our values at Cold Spring.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Ms. Lena Yost. We are excited for the energy, expertise, and heart she will bring to our school community!
Warmly,
Dr. Amy Alzina
